45 Storey tower moves Ahead at Waterfront

Hamilton proposed waterfront

XLR8realty would like to tell you about the plans for a waterfront 45 storey tower in Hamilton moving ahead.

The tower was designed by famous local architect Bruce Kuwabara. Mr. Kuwabara grew up just blocks from where the tower will be built in Hamilton. Council agrees on proceeding with the tower even though there has been local objections saying it will block sight lines of the water, it is incompatible with nearby industry could turn the waterfront to look like Toronto and Burlington and they say it could bring unwanted traffic to area streets. Toronto law firm Borden Ladner Gervais wrote on behalf of the Parrish and Heimbecker flour mill on Pier 10, suggesting “there has been inadequate consultation with existing industries” who may not mesh well with the thousands of new residents.

The 45 storey tower will be located in the northwest corner of Pier 8 currently where the parking lot for the rink is. Mr. Kuwabara is determined to make pedestrian realm comfortable. If approved it will make room for family housing of 2 bedrooms across the development. Hopefully this will encourage more people to live in the waterfront area. This will be the tallest building in Hamilton. This will be the tallest building in Hamilton and Mr. Kuwabara hopes it will be seen from several areas of the city. Mr. Kuwabara says “My hope is that through this process [we achieve] something that would be enduring; a marker; something you could look to.”

There will be several meetings with Council in March to hear arguments for and against building this large building. These discussions will either end in a go to build the tower or a no to stop it.
